ATTN: Seeking Commercial Fishers from LFA 33 and 34 for Ghost Gear Fund Phase 3 Trial
Marine Thinking is currently coordinating Phase 3 of its Ghost Gear Fund (GGF) project with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). Our company has developed an electronic tagging system for individual fishing gears which will improve overall retrieval and help prevent ghost gear situations from polluting our oceans.
With the success of Phase 2, we are looking to scale production by extending an open call for interested commercial fishers to participate in the upcoming trial. For this phase of the project, we are seeking fisher partners with active licenses (2023-2024 season) from Lobster Fishing Areas (LFAs) 33 and 34.
- 1. Tagging
- 2. Deployment
- 3. Status Notification
- 4. Autonomous Sonar Survey for Retrieval
For the partners that meet the requirements, Marine Thinking’s team will install the required hardware on their vessels and perform the necessary training. Partners will be financially compensated $5,000 (CAD) for trialing the equipment during the season.
To apply for the Phase 3 trial, please contact us 902-422-6888 or email info@marinethinking.com with the subject line, “Ghost Gear Fund: Phase 3”, and your eligibility details.
